The green one is a Rumbo squash - it fell of the vine early - probably because the cucumber trellis (also supporting the weight of several of these squash) blew over in a storm a month or so ago. Wouldn't even consider eating it. They're really hardy squash though!
The orange one is, I BELIEVE, a sunshine squash... First year I grew them. Supposed to be super good tasting - super sweet, award winning, etc.
Sadly, the bugs slaughtered all but this one. Rather than wait and see if it holds out til Halloween, and hopefully not have it rot in a heat wave or rain storm, I figured, heck, cook it up now and give it a try.

Hm, that's not very orange on the inside!! Pics in the catalogs made it seem like it'd be REALLY intense orange. This lack of color made me skeptical about the flavor. Oh well - baked it up anyhow - with some water in the dish, and a little salt and brown sugar on top near the end. Took a long time to soften up - not a problem. And the flavor?
Eh.
Kinda slimey in texture, and not really much flavor at all... Real bummer!! I need to learn to grow good winter squash that are packed with flavor sometime! Granted, it might've wanted to stay on the vine longer - except the vine died and it fell off (again, damn bugs!)
So my mantra this year? "Next year!" ;-)
And the green one will just be decorative. I've probably got another half dozen out there in the garden that are starting to turn colors now...

I actually suspect the green squash might have been the better one if the cnditions were better for harvesting and using it. I'm not familiar, though, with either type.
Back to Project Runway!
I have more of the green ones on the vine, ripening. So no worries, I WILL be trying one of those guys before too long, and will definitely report back!
