While cleaning up some of the flower beds this afternoon I salvaged and trimmed down some sedum stalks. Since they were hollow after winter, I'm hoping this cheap, homemade version of the mason bee nests you see in the garden catalogs looks more natural and inviting. I bought an overpriced nest years ago and it never got used. Then again, there's probably enough natural options around here for the solitary bees that they just ignore anything I put out. We shall see!
