Enemy troops have arrived!

Here's the raspberries...

And the asparagus fronds...

Yup, it's Japanese beetle season. I guess that means it's time to get out some soapy water in a container - just hold it under the beetles, give them a flick so they drop in, the soap breaks the water's surface tension so they won't float (and be able to fly away), and then once full, I dump the container into the pond for the fish to have a crunchy snack!

Ugh-I hate them. I've been spending my morning coffee break picking them off everything. Seems to be worse this year than in years past. They're really liking my white petunias--they leave the pink and blue ones alone. Odd.....

I really need to get out there and start picking them off...haven't done this yet, and leaves are starting to get more holes in them. I think the plants should be able to handle it at this point, and it's more superficial than anything.

Interesting that they have preferences on color!
