No no, not really....honest, I didn't! But I DID like Glee's cover of Katie Perry's song on this week's Glee - pure fun, no stress, just a bunch of girls dancing around singing, touching and being provocative - what's not to like!?

Also worth watching in this week's episode, in addition to other fun stuff and very real scene between Santana and her abuela, was Finn's cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". Gotta say, it took a long time into the song before I realized what I was hearing - they changed it up SO MUCH, but it totally worked!

After waaaay too much excitement lately (mild throat infection, finding a home for a stray cat that's spent most of the summer running around the neighborhood, Brett spending a good part of his workday today in the ER because of increased heart rate (no worries, he's fine now - time to dial back on the caffeine for one thing!), driving all over the local area picking up and dropping off things this weekend, and more), I'm ready for some chill-out time. Rumour has it there's going to be at least one kick-ass mash-up on tonite's Glee! (Ha! See what I did there!?) Here's a sneak peek...looking forward to the episode.

Hm - seems that video always catches the first time I hit play. Hit play, and then if it acts like the video is over, try hitting play again - works for me!

K, just watched the video yet AGAIN. I have to say I love that pause where Mercedes stops and Santana just baaaarely glances over her. Seriously - Naya Rivera (Santana) is like sex on legs - that girl is HAWT! Brett and I both comment about how beautiful she is whenever she's on, no matter how bitchy her character is. And the girl can SING!

I have been listening to more and more Adele lately, and am really quite hooked! I realize I'm probably a bit late to the party, but hey, she's really good - give her a try.

And speaking of addicting music that's real catchy, in addition to Rumour Has It, I keep finding myself humming this blasted song that I can't quite get outta my head. Maybe I need to just act out a good chunk of the video - do you think that would help?

Aw man, while I'm quite disillusioned with the DC Universe-wide reboot/New 52 crap that's going on, this is enough to make me wish we had cable again!!!

Now I DO notice some interesting things in there - like how they appear to be using almost all pre-New 52 images of characters, including the old version of Firestorm and not the new mess they've made of him/them. And interesting that the Black Witch version of Mysa/The White Witch is the last character they display....seems like she's most definitely NOT a high profile character these days, nor has she really ever been (unfortunately). And the other two characters displayed with her at the very end? Fellow Legionnaires Lightning Lass and Phantom Girl - again, not high profile characters. Seems straaaaange. I think someone in charge of the ad was just going for girly pics!

Just got the lawn aerated. It only LOOKS like a pack of dogs came through and pooped all over.

Went with a different guy this time who charged a lot less. I'm just hoping his smaller and cheaper tool did as good a job as the guy who came out two years ago for 3x the cost but bigger plugs. Problem with that guy is he never followed through on his appointment this spring.

... all the other apple stuff I was making just wasn't enough. Well, that takes care of another 14 apples out of a bushel. Sure hope it tastes as good as it looks! The dough was being difficult (must remember to make a 1.5x batch next time!), so it's a "rustic" style crust.

Ugh, as I'm typing this we're finding the pie filling boiled out and is smoking up the place. Peeuw!

17 apples peeled, cored, sliced and loaded into the maxxed out dehydrator? Check! (And check out how different from each other the different varieties of apples look minutes after being sliced!)

14 more apples (that's 5 1/2 lbs) prepped the same way, then combined with cinnamon, cloves, salt and sugar and loaded into the slow cooker.

Tomorrow there's gonna be a lot of apple butter and dried apple rings!

Hm, should I make an apple pie??

Did you ever play hot lava as a kid? My brother and I did, and I think Brett says he and his did the same. Maybe it was a boy thing... I don't know.

You'd be on the sofa or the stairs, but in your head you knew it was really a rickety boat or a collapsing hillside, and the only way to survive was to not fall onto the floor, aka hot lava (don't ask me how a boat was in hot lava...maybe there was volcanic upwelling?) And you know it was nearly as much fun if the boat or hillside was stable, so there was a lot of thrashing around, pushing each other off to save yourself, grabbing each other's arms to save them at the last minute, etc.

Hm, this 'Hot Lava' echinacea doesn't look like it's going to scald anyone any time soon, but it sure is putting on a dramatic, one might say "firey", show in the garden.

I just put it in this summer....got it in a special buy two, get one deal. It's supposed to be a perennial... Let's see if it's tough enough to make it through an Ohio winter. I've been watching the extended forecast and it sounds like the combination of el Nino, La Nina, and other longer term weather cycles could be lining us up for an extra cold winter (if we're lucky!). ;-)

Best smoothie yet?!

I recently splurged on a bag of frozen mango chunks... Over $4 and I'm thinking it's only going to be enough for four or five smoothies? The last smoothie I tried with it was a bit lackluster.

I usually make smoothies to 1) use up bananas and 2) try to get yogurt in me. I really don't care for yogurt, but I'm finding I can tolerate it in sweet smoothies. Better than plain yogurt is vanilla, although I suspect it's packing a fair amount of sugar as well.

So into the cup go the usual 3-4 ice cubes, a broken up reeeally ripe banana, about 1/3 to a half cup of vanilla yogurt, and this time a bit more mango than last. In trying to oomph it up I drizzled in about a tablespoon of honey and tossed in one piece of crystallized ginger (this one was about 3/4" square).

Wow!

Just that one piece of ginger really gives it a nice depth I never expected in a smoothie. Any more ginger and I'd need it to be pumpkin and cinnamon instead of mango. And I think the honey also helped round out the various flavors. Yum!

(btw this made a big smoothie. That's only about a third of it in the clean glass dirtied only to take the picture.)

As we were driving home from running errands yesterday, we had a tractor shoot out from someone's field, onto the road ahead of us, with cans clanking on the pavement behind it.

The sign on the back of the tractor read " Done Hitched ", and the beautiful bride looked both excited and nervous she'd fall off.

Just before the tractor turned back onto their driveway, she looked back with a big smile.

To congratulate her we returned her big grin, honked and stuck a big "thumbs up" out the window.

So I have this shirt I love, but don't normally wear out in public...

Marty and Linda (Brett's folks) accepted our impromptu invitation to come roast weinies over the firepit. After dinner we played cards and had brownies.

While we were playing cards I realized Linda was looking at my shirt funny, so I called her on it.

"Well, all night I couldn't figure out why the toaster was saying 'rub me on your butt,' but I just realized it's a fridge. But, wait, why would a fridge say that? "

We just looked at her dumbfounded, and I pointed out that it's a bar of soap. I even pointed to the word "SOAP", but she said she hadn't been able to read it.

Boy oh boy did we get some great laughs out of that, including Brett making sure his mom walked in on him in the kitchen rubbing his butt against the fridge. Oops! Busted! Sick fetish freak!

Man, I wish a pair of roller skates would find me just lying around, put themselves on me as I somersault, and then have me go from klutz to Olympic-level roller skater making me feel frisky about myself! Cool things like this just NEVER happen to me!

Can I just say how much I love "Shine" by Lovefreekz? Back when I was going to the gym and/or walking/jogging at the local parks, I would always make sure this song was a short ways into my music playlist. It's not a good starting song - it's too much, too soon. And you don't want it too late in the playlist because you mind wuss out before you even get to the song. No, this is one of those songs you want playing just after you've gotten warmed up, and think "eh, maybe I'll take it easy today." Then this song comes up, amps up your adrenaline, and really gets you moving!

Turns out the girl in the video is Ali R from London...she looks like she'd be a blast to hang out with! You can check out her site but heads up, there's a few shots with boobies! You were warned!

Just picked about 3/4lb of raspberries! These guys seem extra big and plump, probably because of all the rain we've had. That hasn't watered the flavor down too much - they're great!

While the yellow jackets that were on the berries and chewing them up weren't a problem (they don't seem to fly too well after eating all that fruit), the mosquitoes sure snacked on me! Itchy itchy!

Hey, someone had to taste test, right?

Wow, this recipe turned out very similar to getting a butterfinger blizzard from Dairy Queen (so why make it at home, right?). I made the milk chocolate ice cream recipe from the same book yesterday, and it doesn't seem quite right. Maybe I didn't churn it in the freezer device long enough? Tastes good (think fudgy pudding pop), but very thick/fudgy, kinda stretches, etc. And it didn't seem to make as much as implied...again, maybe it didn't churn long enough...

Next recipe to make? I'm thinking vanilla bean! Or backyard mint? Perhaps Brett will want to try making one of the recipes involving beer?

I just hope these blueberry spice muffins taste as good as they smell! Had some blueberries to use up, and the new Penzeys Spice catalog had a recipe that called for just the amount of blueberries that I had. I figured they were meant to be!
