...and were hosted by the Butterfly Boys...
(Sorry hon, I couldn't resist!)
Mom and Dad drove down from the Rochester area of NY Friday afternoon for a brief weekend visit. We had no home-improvement projects planned, no shopping sprees on the agenda (mom didn't even make it out to TJ Max and Marshalls - gasp!), no trips to Home Depot or Best Buy... What to do!?!?
Well, there WAS one requirement - we had to go to Chipotle's at least once. So with a couple hours after they arrived we packed back in the car and were headed to Kent. After stuffing our faces on tons of tacos, and giving the employees there a real challenge (mom: "Ok, in those three I want beans - no, not that one. And I want carnitas in two and barbacoa in two. And then cheese on all four but sour cream only on those three... Lots of guacamole, but only on three of them..."), we headed back home, taking the scenic route and driving through some neighborhoods looking at houses. The rest of the evening was just vegging out, watching TV, chatting, etc.
Saturday we had a light breakfast after sleeping in, and decided to head to Stan Hywet Hall, where Brett and I had both been at different times in the past, but it seemed like a fun thing to do. We opted for the full blown tour, seeing the inside the manor, the grounds and the conservatory. Too bad we weren't allowed to use cameras inside the manor - Brett and I both admitted to having more of an appreciation for the place than we had one previous visits when we were younger.
After our very educational and entertaining tour inside, we walked the grounds and then checked out the conservatory, where they have an entire area dedicated to butterflies flying all around. Sure, Brett and I have seen the same sort of stuff at the Cleveland Botanical Garden and Phipps Conservatory, but it's always fun to be surrounded by butterflies I guess! :)
Once we were done with that, it was back home to whip up a series of huge paninis on the panini press Brett's folks got me at Christmas (which we still LOVE!). Watched more TV last nite, including exposing mom and dad to the very entertaining American Idol finale! Cooked up some waffles this morning for breakfast (time for a new waffle iron!), and then scaled down paninis again for lunch before they got back on the road to NY. In just a few weeks they'll be flying down to visit my brother, sister-in-law and nieces in VA, and then maybe we'll head back up to visit mom and dad in NY once all the veggie gardens are in full production!

Pretty wings there boys. Hands up if you're singing in the choir!
;-)
God, you're in Sweden and checking out my blog!?!? For shame!! I JUST posted all the pics with an updated link while you were adding your comment, so you'll probably need to refresh.
Get off the computer and get out there and have your fun vacation!!! ;-)
Hallelujah!
Jeph, it's 12:34 at night on a Sunday night here. Yes, there are some things open, but not much, and this will save me much time and work when I get back. Besides, isn't it nice to know I care????
LOL
Oh it totally is! I'm seriously flattered... And I understand wanting to keep in touch with what's going on back home (even though we live no where near each other) while on vacation!
Poor Conrad's not getting the evil cuddle...
And to think you COULD be out clubbing right now! Riiiiiiiight! Me neither! ;-)
Clubbing? What's that? Bah, I used to manage nightclubs, you couldn't get me inside one if you paid me these days.
I think it's sweet you watched Idol with the parents, my Mom is coming for pasta and "Deadwood".
Conrad and I will be engaging in the EC within minutes. I'm signing out now.
Nightclubs? We're old marrieds, we don't do them. Better to have some wine with friends where we can hear them!
WEll tell mom and dad hello from me..Looks like a good visit..
I am NOT even going to ask what the EC is.. Yes I might be a tad niave.
My evening consisted of watering the flowers, watching Dora, fixing dinner( biscuits and gravy, grits, fried eggs and sausage), posting new pics on the blogs and just hanging out on the computer.. I may watch a few episodes of Sex in the City after the kids are in bed. Love that DVR. That is if I can stay up that long..
Oh God, Dora The Explorer. Kids have terrible taste in television. I know every episode of Bear in The Big Blue House by heart, thanks to my friend's kids.
We couldn't exist without our DVR!! Next season I'll have to work on getting my folks started up on American Idol from the first episode!! >:-)
Trust me, we don't do much of the clubbing either. Usually it involves friends saying we should all go out, and me thinking "woo hoo fun!" because I'm remembering what it was like 8 yrs ago, and then groaning, remembering what it was like 5 months ago.... I don't want the smoke, I don't want the hangover, I don't want the ringing ears, and I DO want to enjoy sleeping in on a weekend - not doing it because I stayed up past midnight.
Gawd, I feel and sound so old! :(
I managed some big clubs in San Francisco in the late 80's early 90's and was involved in another one in the late 90's down in Florida, I love 'em, but when I'm in one it seems like work.
When I'm working in the garden, I usually have my iPod on and I'm usually listening to some DJ mix pulled off the soundboard in 1993 or something..it's like a circuit party in the tomatoes.
Clubbing ?? What is that?? LOL..
One good thing is that Dora teaches me Spanish.. Most of the patients I take care of speak Spanish only, now I know my colors in spanish.. LOL
I too love to sleep, don't get enough of it.. I work odd shift hours, mostly nights so my sleep is all screwed up.. SO if I seem weird, strange or just plain wrong just tell yourself , she probably worked that night.. ;)
As far as AI, some of the very first episodes are by far the best!! Hilarious!!
Circuit party in the tomatoes? Sounds suspiciously like my ironing!
Ok, I had to look up the word "pill" (pildora) (ha! Dora!), but I remember my numbers and colors, and you already know your colors. So numbers are:
one: uno
two: dos
three: tres
four: quatro
five: cinco
six: seis
seven: siete
eight: ocho
nine: nueve
ten: diez
So let's say you need to tell your patient what to take - you could hand them "ocho amarillo pildora" or "diez rojo pildora". See, you're all set!
And there end's today's Jeph's Spanish Medical Lessons! ;-)
Oh, and iPodding in the garden... I've taken mine SO many times, figuring I'll listen to music or podcasts, but only once have I done so. I first chalked it up to worrying I'd catch the cord on a shovel handle or something like that, but I could certainly wrap up the cord. I think it's that when I'm out there in the garden, "with nature", I'm really appreciate the brain/ear downtime, and just listening to the birds, the bugs, the wind in the trees, etc. I really WANT to get more iPod time in (I'm SOOOOO behind on Dawn & Drew, Diggnation, etc), but it's just not happening!!
I should get back to my occasional afternoon walks on the path near us after work - I was doing up to 6 miles last fall. But either the weather's been crappy, or the schedule's been busy, or gee, I just haven't WANTED to.... Yeah, I really need to get back to that and stop slacking!!
Ahhhhh...the good ol' days of club music! I used to buy mix CDs and would have 'em BLARING in my car!!! :)
For a while I had my Italian Language CDs on my iPod and I'd do my lessons while I was working in the yard, but you know how it is contolling the volume of your voice when you have earphones in...I was basically shouting my lessons...
Bon giornio Signore, mi chiamo es Steven
see the Italian lessons didn't take.."bon" is French! b-u-o-n
And I'm sure the neighbors just thought you were a freak! Same as when I start laughing at whatevers being said in a podcast...while out gardening by myself...with other gardeners nearby! ;-)
Jeph!! WHOA that is a lot of pills!!! Thanks for the Spanish lesson, now can you tell me how to push that baby out pronto!!:-)
As for the music in the garden, i prefer the sound of birds and silence.. My mp3 player is full of loud heavy metal for me to work out too.. NOt peaceful enough for my garden...
I'm putting together a "fun" little Powerpoint for the staff at work: lessons in Swedish. Not at all helpful, of course. The best word we've learned so far? Farthinder!
Why would you want to hinder your farts!?!? Let 'em blow freely!! :)
Seriously! I found a better sign a few days later, though, for a village called Åssjöbo. Love the Swedes!
ROFL!!!
