...and I'll blow your cucumber trellis down - with the two pumpkins growing on it.
:(
Decided to leave work after lunch and head out to the garden - was only 95F, how bad could that be!?!? Got out there to find the storms since Sunday had blown over the cucumber trellis - I think it actually busted some of the wood off at ground level - I couldn't work them back into the ground and heard lots of crackling when I moved it. I found one remaining tomato stake I hadn't used, so I propped the trellis back up with that. There's a good chance the whole thing will have fallen back over the next time I get out there, but there's nothing I could do for it today - didn't have the supplies.
Picked more squash, tomatoes (including the first of the Black Krim, altho they weren't PERFECTLY ripe yet - they can finish off on the counter!), snow peas and sugar snaps, okra, etc... I'm really noticing the difference between the very popular and more common Blue Lake green beans and the fancier (more expensive, lower germination rate) Maxibel green beans... I think in future years I'll just buy a large amount of Maxibels and not worry about other beans. The Maxibels are still producing nice long, slender green beans, while the Blue Lakes aren't holding up well under the same conditions - they're producing fewer beans, and those that they are producing are knobby and bent. I don't know if it's a shorter life expectancy for the plants, the extreme heat this week, the leaves being stripped by the bean beetles (who don't seem to care as much for the Maxibels!), or a combination. Whatever - lesson learned!
Oh, and that pumpkin on the cuke trellis that's caught in the wires? It's getting bigger!! Definitely going to need to take the bolt cutters with me!

We're supposed to get a storm tomorrow afternoon here. Luckily the weatherman is never right.
So it rained for all of two minutes today, feh!
Oh we got a real heavy downpour, accompanied with lots of thunder, around 445 yesterday afternoon. I was wrapping up my physical therapy session for tendonitis, HOPING to finish before the rain hit (it was starting to get loud and thundery out). Well, I missed than window by about 5 minutes. Ran out to the car, getting soaked along the way.
In the very short drive home people were already having to avoid the outer lanes because they were flooding, and it looked like a lower car could easily stall (luckily my CR-V is up high - was GREAT in the floods a few years ago!).
While the storm didn't last long, we did get quite a bit of a downpour - hopefully there was enough to soak in and do the plants some good!
It ended up raining pretty hard at about 11:30 last night, but nothing too major, but no watering this week again! Yay!
