Thanks to Peter for the great cookbook he sent awhile back! Today was my first chance to make something from it - some really good cranberry scones!
And I can't just leave recipes alone - so rather than whole cranberries I chopped them for better dispersion, and I added the zest from an orange (hey, I was eating the orange and the zest would go to waste... There are children starving in the world!)
While these guys took a lot longer to cook (and I cut them to half the size the recipe called for - they should've cooked faster!), they turned out GREAT!!! Very tastey - thanks Peter!

I think Tucker approves.
Yeah, it looks like he's waiting for them, doesn't it?
I loooove scones, and I've been told Peter's are the best :) I'm sure yours are right up there, too :)
Funny thing is, I've never tried this recipe. I always make the other one on the same page of the cookboook, or variations thereof.
I'll have to make that other recipe sometime - it's just not often that I have buttermilk. Granted, when I do, I have to find all sorts of things to use it up on...so this'll be a perfect "new recipe" to try out!
Okay, other things to do with buttermilk: pastry for pie crusts, buttermilk biscuits, buttermilk mashed potatoes. Oh, and in Pacific Passions there's a mighty good ginger cake that also uses buttermilk. And try the soda bread, really!
