Dinner and a movie

The other night NetFlix delivered a movie Brett's been itching to see recently - John Waters' "A Dirty Shame". Having been turned off or grossed out by most of John Waters' movies, I wasn't looking forward to seeing the movie. I confess - I was pleasantly surprised - this movie with Tracey Ulman, Johnny Knoxville, Selma Blair and more about a small town full of sexual deviants/fetishists was very entertaining (and a bit educational! LOL) And I have to admit this was the most Selma Blair has every entertained me. Now Johnny Knoxville...well, you HAVE seen Jackass and Jackass Number Two, right?

Anyhow, I fixed up a fast, grilled dinner for us to mellow out with. Turned out really good! I'm still working my way through all those apples I picked up last weekend, and decided to try a recipe for grilling them in a pouch. The recipe called for maple syrup, brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon. I didn't have maple syrup, so I ad-libbed and did a little mix of regular ol' pancake syrup and the syrup from a jar of candied ginger. Gotta say - the apples turned out really good! Wonder if I couldn't find a stovetop recipe for something similar where I could make large batches and can them - would be great on ice cream or in pastry!

Along with the apples (bundled in parchment paper here), I wanted to use up one of our peaches that's close to overripe. I halved, stoned, and swirled the peaches around in a mix of the same stuff that went on the apples...mmm good, especially with the grilled chicken!

The chicken (far left below) was just pounded til tender, and rolled around with McCormick's Chipotle Cinnamon rub. REALLY good stuff. All this, plus corn on the cob and green beans from the garden - very healthy dinner! The peaches went from "hardly cooking" to "uh oh, they shot through caramelized and look burned!" real fast....but they were still good.

I mentioned RELAXING with dinner and a movie - Tucker shows he knows how to relax!

And when you're a kitty, even when relaxing, ya gotta move around alot. Here he is streeeetching up to the ledge.

Simon CLEARLY doesn't know how to relax - he's looking mighty bug-eyed here!

I have to say, despite the food pics looking mighty fine, the cat pics win the prize! :)

"I mentioned RELAXING with sinner and a movie - Tucker shows he knows how to relax!"

Just to be clear, by "sinner" you meant Brett?

:-P

Oops - thanks for catching that typo Peter. DINNER and a movie... But, yeah, Brett's probably considered a sinner by some! LOL

Nice new avatar pic, btw.

And Tabby - Tucker ALWAYS thinks he's worthy of winning the prize. He's pretty darn full of himself.
