Portage County Randolph Fair

Two weeks ago this past Friday (or one week before The Great Lawn Installation Project of 2007) we went to the Portage County Randolph Fair, which takes place about 5 miles from our new place. (That let's ya know we're REALLLLLY out in the boonies!) I've either been so busy with lawn/yard/garden/house stuff, or just flat out avoiding the computer, so it's taken me awhile to get these posted - hope you enjoy!

One of the best things about county fairs is the FOOD! Yum! Steak on a steak. Fried cheese on a stick. Fried veggies (which I SO look forward to, and then regret by the time I'm halfway through). Gyros (sadly, I was too full to eat one). Funnel cake (again, too full - and I really regret not eating one INSTEAD of the veggies!)

Plus there's all the animals, which are fun to pet and watch. We had such a heatwave right after major rainstorms at the beginning of the fair that I guess some of the animals didn't survive - I know at least one rabbit and nine chickens passed away. I kinda feel bad for the animals - they're taken from their homes (where hopefully they're taken care of, usually by kids in 4H), and penned up with all these other animals for hundreds of us people to come poke our fingers in at them. And then some of them are bought for crazy amounts of money to be taken off to slaughter.... How's that for a life!? ;-)
