Michele called the other day, asking what trees are starting to bloom vibrant pink right now. While I COULD'VE been wrong just based on my bias, I spouted out "redbud! eastern redbud!" instantly...
Gee, could it have anything to do with me walking over to the front yard redbud tree almost every day after work to see what's happening with it!? I keep expecting the blooms opening up more, but maybe this is all they do? Unfortunately the one in the backyard shows NO buds - just some leaves. Granted, it's quite a bit smaller - maybe next year?
To me they seem reminiscent of barnacles, with their little creatures reaching out to catch a meal floating by...
I'm really worried all these blooms will be destroyed by the frost tonite!

We have some of these blooming on campus, including a small stand of them on the east side of the Library. Very pretty, but so fleeting.
