Moo? Chirp?
We've had what I thought was just a pair of brown-headed cowbirds visiting the bird feeders lately... I finally managed to get a not-so-great picture of them this morning. As you can see, it's really only the male that's brown-headed (with black body). I was telling Brett I think they look more like a Frakenstein-bird....like someone said "hm, wouldn't it be fun to put the head of a brown bird on the body of a black one!?" Seriously - it's such an odd "pattern". And the female is just sort of a chocolatey-gray color.
Anyhow, this afternoon I saw some activity going on, peeked outside, and there were THREE males and TWO females. It seemed like two were mated pairs, but I'm not sure if I was reading too much in to their proximity and motions. Maybe female cowbirds are just tagalongs? Yay - codependency!

These are nasty birds - the female lays her egg in a songbird nest alongside their eggs - when the cow bird baby hatches it grows bigger and faster - starving the songbird baby's... I hate the damn things!
Yeah, I read that about them. They're cute though! ;-)
It says, More cowbell! Like, duh.
