Amongst a TON of other yard/garden work this weekend, I tried something new today... The onion tops are all dying off (as are the garlic) - which is a sign they're ready to be harvested. While most of the garlic tops are actually breaking off (some are even showing signs of rotting where the top meets the bulb - uh oh?), many of the onions are holding on quite firmly. So, I thought I'd try my hand at braiding them for storage...
For now the ones I braided (there's plenty more - some still in the ground, some indoors) are hanging from the deck railing, where they'll get a nice breeze and the evening sun to help dry the outer skins and hopefully dry out any remaining greenness in the stalks.
