Dutch Apple Cake

I forget how we got started on the topic of Dutch Apple Cake - if Sharon found the recipe on line, or if it was one her sister Denise sent her. It was definitely a "hey, here's a way to use up all those apples we picked!" type of topic... Sharon and I were really curious about the recipe since it had all the apple slices sticking up out of the batter. Odd. Hm, well, someone has to try it!

Dunno how it's gonna turn out - but it sure LOOKS beautiful! The apple slices are "marinated" in sugar and cinnamon for an hour before you make the batter and poke them in it.

And once baked? The batter puffs up some, but the bits of brown apple sticking out of the top are beautiful!

And no worries - the apple slices, once baked, were super tender. The cake batter was a nice, dense kind - like a pound cake. This stuff was a real hit at work!
