My Hero

What could possibly freak Doogie out this much?

Our brave dog?

Our protector?

What could make him run up to the top of the steps, turn around, sit on the top step, and get his fur all disheveled like this:

BIGFOOT!

Oh wait, no, maybe not Bigfoot, but some other sort of monster of the wild...

This all happened Sunday morning. The night before, when the guys were over, Doogie was out doing his business in the dark and got all freaked out and sat up on the edge of the deck, panicky. It was snowing, and hard to see very far, but after shining the flash light out back I saw at least two sets of green glowing eyes on the far side of the pond - sent a shiver up my spine because I knew they could see me much better than I could see them, and I honestly don't know what they were. At first I assumed they were raccoons (I don't know why I thought that - I haven't see any around here. Possums yes...raccoons, no). But then when one turned sideways to sort of lope along the back edge of the pond, I decided it seemed more dog-sized. It might've been a coyote or fox - we've heard folks have seen coyotes, and we've seen a fox. Again, I'm sure WE'RE safe, and Doogie's PROBABLY big enough to be safe, but it's a little creepy. I don't think the "monsters" that freaked Doogie out Saturday night were these deer - they were too close to the ground.

BTW - it was interesting to note how much darker these deer seemed than those we had in the spring. I'm guessing it's a difference in fur for the season - either in thickness/warmth, or for blending in.

Perhaps he was startled by their, um, friskiness?

Watch out for Coyotes. There are becoming a major problem in some of the "outer" areas of Columbus. Doogie alone with a pack of them could get ugly.

Also, again, what a damn good lookin' dog!

Finny - Yeah, I wondered what was going on there with the, um, mounting maneuver! ;-)

Yellow Dog - Doogie says thanks for the complements! And I've made similar typing mistakes on plenty of occasions - don't worry about it! ;-)
