Hm, the vertical scroll bars aren't showing up for me in Firefox on the Macbook, but I AM able to scroll up and down. Just so you get the full effect of the spreadsheet, and so you don't think that, whoopdy doo, I've only planted like 6 plants, make sure you see if you can do some vertical scrolling! ;-)
Yes, there are a lot of tomatoes and peppers, and no, I won't have room for all of them, but filling up a flat of peat pots of each is my safety net for that rare occasion that I lose something, plus I share the extras with friends/coworkers. And that, in exchange, has gotten me bags of grass clippings, trailer loads of manure, and more!!
This year I told myself I wasn't allowed to buy any new tomato varieties - so I think I did pretty good in that I only got a couple new varities! ;-) And yeah, there's a butt load of new peppers this year, but...
I wanted to try a bunch of varieties from the "Heirloom: Notes from an Accidental Tomato Farmer" book Brett got me (it was mostly about the author's life, somewhat about tomatoes, and a very small bit about peppers, but the pepper stuff was really interesting!), and...
- I've found I just haven't done a good job of saving our peppers in previous years - partly because we haven't had much harvest beyond what we use as they come off the plant. This year I want a wide variety of sweets and hots, I want to make some cool marinades/sauces, I want more for salsas, and I definitely want to have enough for the freezer this time around! Sure, some of them are supposedly the hottest peppers known to man, but that'll be part of the fun, riiiight? I'll just have to make sure I don't try saving any of my own seeds from the peppers or tomatoes. With that many varieties in close proximity, who knows what sort of cross pollination's gonna happen!?

I admit it. I'm lazy about growing from seed. But then, I don't have much space and very little sun. So spring is mostly about watching perennials pop up and filling the patio with flower pots.

With the seeds - I do like the thrill of seeing them start to sprout - but then there's all the watering maintenance, potting up, hardening off, etc...
Finny - Thanks! Still needs work I think. I'm not sure I formatted it the best way yet, so it might be undergoing some revisions still.
And yeah, I envision seeing, picking, smelling and tasting all those different tomato varieties, but once they're all fruiting, then I realize I don't like some of them as much as others, they get neglected a bit more, etc... Still - I can't wait til it's time to start picking sun-warmed tomatoes fresh off the vine!

The labeler i bought is the p-touch 2700. Buy the extra strength tz tape for it. It has the stronger outdoor adhesive on it. I found some cheap sources for it online. I have been told by many gardeners that it lasts for years outside.
Mini blinds work well but you have to make sure you put them deep into the soil. They tend to work their way out if not.

Flowrgirl - Sorry for the delayed response! I think that's the model of labeler I got - don't recall now. Very organic swoop in the plastic down the left side? Anyhow, I managed to get it for $55 new, with no shipping! It showed up the other day, along with some sample label table, but the additional tape I ordered hasn't arrived yet. The sample tape is odd - it's actually printing out white-on-black, and I have to peel off a clear plastic piece from each label? Is that normal?
It DEFINITELY seems like it'll be tough stuff - that's for sure!
Not only am I worried about the markers working themselves out of the ground, but I'm also worried our puppy will help them. ;-) Do you have other recycled stuff you recommend? I've looked for inexpensive blank white plastic markers I can use, but it's something like $3 for 25? Maybe for 50? But you know how this goes - 50 is never enough! ;-)
