Things to do on a lazy Friday

Today's my last day of taking time off from work just to enjoy my new status as an old-time. I had all sorts of things to possibly do while I'm off, and I've been doing bits and pieces here and there while also just chilling out, reading magazines, playing with the beasts, working on a new pa...eh...I don't want to say just yet... Just getting stuff done. Today's projects include:

Finishing up clearing lots of crap out of my office (one of the two upstairs bedrooms), especially from the closet, and spackling the holes where the construction-grade shelf was. Once the spackle's dried, I can sand it down and then maybe get started on priming. And, if I can get all that done today, maaaaaybe I'll even get the inside of the closet painted before the end of the weekend!! The color? Chocolate pudding! Sounds fun, hunh? Then we'll put in some nicer shelving, maybe add an electrical outlet (oh shoot - I wanted to do that before I paint!), and put a lamp in there. When all's said and done this somewhat wasted closet space will be a reading nook with a nice big comfy chair tucked back in it.

And the other project that I'm waiting on? I need to use/discard/feed the sourdough starter this weekend, and we haven't had fresh bread in awhile. I decided to try taking this recipe and tweaking it:

If all goes well, I'll post my version of the recipe. Here's the two loaves on their second rise, which they're doing right now.

Maybe I'll wake the dog up from his nap and take him for a walk, then come back and check the bread dough progress and see about sanding the spackling. It's so warm out today that I've got some of the windows open - and it's nice to hear the birds chirping outside. Sure, it's cloudy out, but so far no rain.
