Got some pics yesterday of this bad boy - it's one of the white-breasted nuthatches that've been visiting the birdfeeders, and the only birds I've seen pecking at the suet blocks so far. It's neat how they hang upside down to poke at it...
I'll have to try and get pictures of our harem of cardinals sometime soon. We've got at least one male and at least four females that've been visiting. One of the females seems to have NO TAIL - although she appears to fly just as well as the other three. I think I've noticed her getting chased off by, or keeping her distance from, at least one of the other three females. Maybe she's the runt, or the Cinderella?

Terrific shot, Jeph. Are you much into bird watching otherwise?
Yes, indeed, great shot!
Interesting. I've only seen red-breasted nuthatches over here (about, what, 10 miles away from you). The whole bird gang was going crazy at the birdfeeder while it was snowing so hard Sunday -- still lots of goldfinches (aren't they going to migrate?), many cardinals, house finches, juncos, chickadees, occasionally a tufted titmouse. Every once in a while a blue jay comes swooping in - phoom! and all the other birds fly away.
Carolyn - I've never seen the red-breasted ones! Will have to watch for that. Maybe we can trade?
