What's this I'm bringing home in the car tonite? (After driving through a REALLY bad storm!)
A puppy!
This is _____ (his name given by the shelter is Beau, but we're thinking he won't keep that name - he doesn't know it yet, and it sounds too much like "No!"). He's supposed to be some sort of Border Collie mix, but they're not certain. He was found out on a highway and taken in to the rescue center.
So far he's eaten a bunch, raced around the house a lot, loved going out on a leash, pooped on the rug by the back door, pee'd on the kitchen rug, and just been super cute.
Oh, and he's had a bath. He stunk, and we found some fleas. Hopefully we got all the fleas with the flea shampoo, but realize we'll have to watch closely.
Hopefully the cats don't feel we're giving him too much attention yet. We're alternating them having free reign while he's locked up in his crate, and then he gets to come out while they're locked up in the bedroom. Wonder how long til they feel they can come out with him roaming around.
While this dog did NOT like having a bath (particularly didn't like the water running while he was in the tub), apparently dogs are SUPER happy after baths and being dried off. Talk about a happy, squirmy puppy!
So we're still considering names. The vet doesn't have any openings til next Tuesday, so that gives us plenty of time. I'm going to see if they can take him in sooner if anything opens up. While he's been wormed and given some of his shots, we still saw some worms in his stool.
If you have any name suggestions, please feel free to pass them along!

Congrats Jeph & Brett! How exciting! I'm sure the cats are thrilled LOL!
How about Teal'c? Or Jackson? Or some other dorky sci-fi reference ;)
LOL I suggested Captain Jack (as in Capt Jack Harkness from Dr Who/Torchwood)... And yes, Brett was throwing out a bunch of sci fi names. And then pop star names. (HM, what do you think of Hannah Montanna for a boy dog? LOL)
Thanks!
OMG. That kicks ass on having some stupid cats. I hope to see lots of adorable dog photos on the blog!
I think you need to give him an LSH name.
Congratulations you two.
Any gay-bies in the future?
;-)
Verrrry cute! Maybe you could name him Sylar? Or Hiro? Or Oliver (Green Arrow)? Or Clark?
Over the years my sister and I have named most of her cats & kittens with Star Wars and Star Trek names (Luke, Leia, Solo, Tuvok, Mr. Spock, etc ;-D) Drives our mom nuts! LOL
Well, to continue the sci-fi theme ... my fav episode of "Star Trek: TNG" is "I, Borg," in which they "rescue" an injured Borg and he develops a sense of individuality and self, and they name him "Hugh."
So if you name him "Hugh," it sounds like "you" when you call him or are talking to him ... and the alternate/diminutive form is cute, "Huey" ... and when he needs a bath or does something stinky, you can call him "Ew" or "Eww-y" instead!
Peter - I'm not naming a boy dog Ayla, I don't care what you say! ;-) (What're you thinking? Mekt? Time Trapper?) Ooh - Trapper's kinda cute!
And yes, we just got a puppy for the people who were tired of kitty pics on here. ;-)
Ooh Anita - while I'd pass on most of those names, I LOVE Oliver/Ollie!!!
Dave - I can't name him that because *I* have a hard time going with names/words like that - that start with "H". I always said "you-man" instead of "hyooman", and then Martha screwed me over with her "HHHHerbs" thing... LOL And actually, we JUST saw that episode again a few weeks ago!
Yay for puppies! Rocket (our catbeast) got used to Jada (our adopted dog) in about a week. At first it was all hissing and nails, but then she came out, gave Jada a good talking to about whose house it really was (hers) and it's been peachy ever since.
I vote for Zeke - it's my favorite dog name and I haven't been able to use it since our adopteds have all been too old to have their name changed.
CONGRATS!!
I'm so happy to see a REAL pet on the blog now :)
Although I like Sheridan (Bab5) - I think the rule of thumb for dog names is 2 syllables - for ease of calling... see you have cats now and the only given with them is they WILL eat you if you die in your home...
With a dog, a name MEANS something - since the dog will actually listen to you!
SO you could go for Lando...
Or Astro...
Or BoBuh...
Or Conan...
Do not select any of the following:
Jar-Jar...
Or Neelix...
Or Pippin...
Or Cerebus...
selection of any name from the "not" list will ultimately result in incessant mocking and fun making
Andy -
LOL I keep throwing Astro out there, but Brett vetos it. Bummer - I like Astro! (He suggested Jetson once, but I didn't like that)
Oh, and he really wants to name him Booger, but I'm vetoing that.
Lando's fun, but I don't think it'd stick for a dog name with us. DEFINITELY not Neelix! LOL
Finny -
I suggested Zeke to Brett last nite, and it got overruled.
And the cats are starting to come out more and roam around while the puppy's in his crate, and Brett was even able to hold the puppy in his arms and approach Tucker, who was on a filing cabinet, up to about a foot or two away. Tucker seemed really curious, while the puppy seemed intimidated (but not scared), so that's a good sign.
First of all, Peter...cats rule! :P
Second of all, congratulations, Jeph!! :)
I suggest the name COOPER.
I LOVE Cooper! And it's been on and off the suggestion block. But because I suggested that name to a friend who took in a cat some years back, and now she has the biggest hairiest siamese/Main Coon thing you've ever seen named Cooper, Brett says we can't name our dog Cooper. Ok fair enough...
