Making progress...

The leaf humus makes for a nice, dark, moisture preserving mulch that will benefit the soil rather than tie up stuff the plants need while breaking down a wood mulch. At least that's what everything I read or hear on podcasts says!

Now I just have to be patient and wait for the ground level plants to fill out and the clematis and rose to climb the arch. I'm not known for my patuencey. ;-)

I think I wanna get a few more plants (aside from the planned hydrangeas) to fill in some space. Painted ferns? Ivy?
