I'm really, really hoping to succeed at knitting a sweater. The acrylic, lots of seaming, cabled cardigan I never finished after melting some of it before attempting a poor seaming job a year or two ago kinda turned me off.
So now what am i going to try? Fingering weight yarn for a sweater! Because nothing says doable like super fine yarn that's gonna take a long time.
Oh yeah, it's also gonna have a ton of stranded color work!
I'm just doing a quick posting about it here. I've finally spun up all the yarn (Brett did one for me - it's the looser-caked dark blue), and started knitting a gauge swatch last night. So far the recommended size US5 needles appear to be getting gauge, which seems weird 1) for first attempt, and 2) because the fabric seems a little loose. Hey, what do I know...

Years ago, when my kids were little, I made sweaters. After a decades lay off, I'm getting back into knitting again and have two projects I'm working on now - one is a simple poncho with four strips of cable stitch (front, back, and arms) and the other is a baby blanket.
Oh yeah? I didn't know you were into knitting... Are you on Ravelry - it's sort of a social network site for knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers. More than just social "look at what I made", it's also a great source of info about yarns, seeing what different yarns/colors look like when people have used them in projects, and also a great source for patterns (both free and for sale).
