Los ninos huevos

Here's what's going on in one of the artificial trees still left out on the front porch.

Each of these eggs is about the size of the tip of my pinky. They're SMALL!

Everytime we come up to, or go out of, the front door, the mother bird flies off in a panic. Hey - it's not our fault she built the next on the front porch! But don't worry - she comes back every time...

And here's the lucky parents to be...

Actually, that's TWO of the birds. At first there were two females and the one male visiting the nest every day. I don't know if one's a nursemaid, or if they have something kinky going on, or what!?

Now I know if Andy was here, he'd just be shooting them... I guess house finches are known for disrupting bluebird nests. But since we don't have bluebirds around here very often, and I have no real desire to harm these birds, PLUS they bribe us with BEAUTIFUL songs, I'm certianly not going to bother them...

Oh how sweet! We had an active bird's nest on our porch eve last year and it was darling. Little tweets all day and night.

Of course, Rocket spent the whole time on the back of the sofa staring at the nest. Twitching her whiskers all menacing and what not.

As though she could jump that high. Really now.

We got back from NY yesterday to find at least two of the babies had hatched. I peeked out earlier and three are now hatched. I'm guessing they're "ripening" on schedule since at first there were only two eggs for a few days, then more eggs started appearing.

We REALLY don't need to let our cats in on this little secret!
