Orchid in bloom

Remember the entry that first started this blog?

Well, Sharon made me promise to post a follow up picture of the orchid sometime, after more of it was in bloom. Check THIS out!

Normally the orchid sits in the kitchen window, with the blooms draping over the asparagus fern and aloe plant - so I moved it somewhere it would have a chance to show off more for the photos. The first bloom that opened up (weeks before the others), wilted and dropped off about two weeks ago. So I figure they're all going to start following suite before too long. Some of the smaller ones were just opening up this past week, so hopefully it'll last awhile...

Yes, flower pretty. I'm trying to see what books you have! Curiously, I have "Ingredients", but mine is a Swedish translation I bought on the last trip over. Handsomely illustrated!

Should I photo the entire bookcase sometime? Seriously - most of it's cookbooks - just ask Dave!

Nice orchid. I liked orchids better when they were difficult to grow and expensive though.

Oh, as a status symbol - showing you could do something no one else could pull off? See, the trick is MOST people still seem to think that's the case!! >;-)

Do photograph the bookshelf, or send me catalog entries for the volumes at least!

LOL

I love going to others' homes to see what cookbooks are there. Invariably people our age seem to have some ruddy Moosewood thing (goodness knows I had my phase with them). Always makes me laugh. I figure you should have an enviable collection.

Ugh, I'm so old I have Moosewood on papyrus.

I only have one Moosewood book I believe? Moosewood Cooks at Home maybe? Or heck, maybe I don't have a Moosewood book - maybe I just had one out of the library for an extended period of time?

I shouldn't scorn Moosewood so, but there are so many good vegetable recipes out there. Why spend time trying to coerce veggies into resembling meat dishes?

Old? Steven, aren't you only about mid-40s (I don't have the profile open, sorry if I'm aging you)? My partner is 50 this year. At your age, frankly, men start getting real interesting. No, I am not hitting on you!

LOL

So what are your thoughts on eggplant parm? Is that a meat dish that's been coerced into a veggie dish? 'Cause that's some mighty fine eatin'!! (Not that I've had it in many years...I'd have to do double duty dinner, cooking eggplant parm for myself, and chicken parm for my sweetie, and sometimes I'm just into the extra work)

eggplant parm is fantastic. I usually bake the eggplant instead of frying it to save about 1000 calories in oil. hicken parm isn't my fave,

I'm with you Steve - baking the eggplant parm DOES really taste good and feel healthier...

Thanks M!

I seriously vote for frying the heck out of the eggplant. Come on, no one eats Italian to lose weight!
