In my last "Getting ready for Halloween" post, I showed the completed project with the Halloween wreathe on the front door. And in my original teaser I showed I had also started work on using up the scrap insulation used as packing when Mary and I turned old crates into cold frames for our gardens. Well here's the best of the tombstones (personal opinion) so far I think:
What, you've never seen a pink tombstone!? LOL Ok, so almost all the tombstones are past this point now - most of them have a layer of primer on them, and now I need to start working in more gray, black, cream and almond colors - very lightly with most of those colors just to add weathering effects.
I'm really hoping the work I did with the wood burner, combined with using different shades/colors, will add some real depth and eerie-ness to this thin pink styrofoam! All instructions I've seen suggest using up to 2" insulatution, but I was wanting to use up scraps (free!) - so we'll see how this goes with 1/2" insulation.
Who's Constantine? John Constantine is a comic book character - and not one who's comic I've ever read actually, but I DO believe he's died on at least one occasion....and he's an eerie character, and I felt the name looked great on a tombstone! (And hey, maybe you saw the movie starring Keanu Reeves playing Constantine! Surprisingly good, even if the hair color, accent, tec were all wrong!)
Anyhow, I've got a number of other tombstones I'm working on, and we picked up some stakes to stand them up in the front yard (hopefully), and I REALLY hope to get them done so they're up in the next week or so - heck, the party's less than 2 weeks away, and the neighborhood's getting all Halloweeny looking! (And so far NONE of those inflatable yard decorations! YAY!)
