Pucker up!

This is the last of the big lemons off the Meyer lemon tree. Thanks to Jess at finnyknits, I picked up the luscious lemons cookbook a few years back, but then hardly used it. Turns out, even if there's no other good recipes in the book, the lemon meringue pie recipe makes it totally worth the cost!
Granted, this is only going to be the second time I make the recipe with the homegrown Meyer lemons - my fingers are crossed that it Turns out as good as the last time! (Yes, those are my homegrown lemons in the pic below!)

Have you got a post on how you grew your own Meyer lemons? I want some too!

Welllll...I feel like I cheated since most of these lemons were already small, very hard, dark green little fruits about the size of my thumb when my friend talked me into buying the small tree on sale at Donzell's this past summer... I had no idea it was going to take them THIS long to be ready for harvest, and I don't know if I'll get another round this coming year. I'm trying to remember if this tree bloomed at all this fall (I know the dwarf orange tree had tons of blooms on it) - and am hoping the lemon tree will bloom again sometime this spring/summer to have fruit ready for harvest next winter? If it works out, THEN I can maybe tell you how I grew my own lemons - but at this point all I can say is "buy a tree with the lemons on it, then give it as much light as possible." ;-) I honestly feel like I went to the grocery store and bought a pre-potted basil plant in the produce section and claim I grew my own basil.

Well okay then. At least you 'fessed up. LOL The thought of growing lemons or limes is very tempting though. Hey - keep us posted. :-D
